Sixth Voting Meeting
November 3, 2020
To select the charities for presentation, members were invited to “put their name in the hat”; 8 chose to do so, and 3 were selected. Each presenter prepared a 5-minute video which was shared with the membership. Votes were collected electronically and 141 of our 182 members voted. Our presenters did a great job of introducing us to three worthy Sarasota Charities. Congratulations to all of them.

Project 180 Sarasota was the selected charity
We raised $17,700
In addition to the members’ donations, we were awarded a $5,000 matching donation grant by The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation – making a total donation of $22,700 to Project 180 Sarasota.
Project 180 Sarasota Presented by Barbara Richards
Project 180’s mission is to reintegrate formerly incarcerated citizens into community life, with their vision being to reduce poverty, homelessness, unemployment, and criminal behavior among formerly incarcerated citizens. Our donation, which will be approximately $18,000 (plus the possibility of a $5,000 matching grant) will be used to provide up to $1,000 in medical and/or dental care for each of their residents. Second Heart Homes Presented by Megan Howell
Second Heart Homes’ mission is dedicated to providing permanent housing to those with mental illness who have experienced, or are at-risk of, homelessness. The mission of Suncoast Institute of Chemical Dependency is to provide free addiction education and resources to everyone seeking a better understanding of addiction disease and its devastating mental, emotional, physical and spiritual process, as well as its painful impact on individuals, families, congregations and communities. On March 20, 2020 98 of our 188 members were in attendance at our fifth voting meeting. Our presenters did a great job of introducing us to three worthy Sarasota charities.

Child Protection Center, Inc. was the selected charity
We raised $17,900
In addition to the members’ donations, we were awarded a $5,000 matching donation grant by The Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation – making a total donation of $22,900 to Child Protection Center, Inc.
Child Protection Center, Inc. Presented by Sheila Miller
The Child Protection Center’s (CPC) programs provide a comprehensive approach to prevent, intervene and treat child abuse. The Child Protection Team evaluates alleged child abuse and neglect, evaluates risk factors and provides recommendations for interventions. There are four programs supported by CPC – but the program that our donation will be used to support is the Children and Families Supervised Visitation Program. When children’s safety is at a heightened risk due to parental substance abuse, domestic violence, or mental illness, this program provides a neutral, safe place for children to maintain a relationship with both parents. Ongoing parent and child contact, through supervised visitation, has been shown to be crucial to a child’s mental health and ability to build a healthy relationship with the non-custodial parent. This program is the only non-profit agency in Sarasota County that provides onsite, structured, supervised services to families.

Suncoast Institute on Chemical Dependency Presented by Robin Hain
SICD provides free addiction education resources to families, congregations, and community. Their goal is to create an awareness of the disease of addiction and offer appropriate referral resources for people in need. They provide educational programs at no cost to all who are interested in learning more about addiction disease and the recovery process.

Andrew Monroe Memorial Scholarship Fund Presented by Stacey Monroe
In honor of the life of Andrew Monroe, the Annual Andrew Monroe Memorial Scholarship Fund provides scholarships at Riverview High School for senior soccer athletes, track athletes and JROTC cadets. These scholarships range from $250 to $2,000.
